Most telephone companies offer a "local calling plan." There are several variations of these plans, but here's the two most common:
Plan #1
Under this plan you can call any one phone number you want, as often and as long as you want, for one flat monthly fee. This fee usually runs around $10.00, which is less than most ISP's charge. You must tell the telephone company the phone number that you wish to call under this plan, and it usually must be within the same area code. The disadvantage is that this plan is only good for the one phone number. However, you could use this plan to access a dial up number in another nearby city.
Plan #2
This plan permits you to call any number, any time, for as often and as long as you want for one flat monthly fee. This fee is usually $17 to $20.00 per month. You are usually restricted to any phone number within your same area code. This is about the same amount most ISP's charge. But the advantage is that you can call anyone on the plan, you're not restricted to the one telephone number. You get your internet access AND a free calling area.
